Buck Rodgers

Ground Control Dj's /  9-5-9music /  Fo // Indianapolis, IN

OPEN FORMAT

When one thinks of House music, one might picture a bass-booming, light-flashing club in cities like Las Vegas or Los Angeles. But Indianapolis DJ Jordan “Buck” Rodgers is proving that even the Midwest knows its music by blending hip-hop, R&B, electro, breaks, Top 40, and funk sounds to create his own signature sound. Fresh off last week’s Red Bull Thre3style Regional Finals in Chicago, where Rodgers placed second, Rodgers has taken Indianapolis and its surrounding areas in full-force, and doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. Beginning with a love of drumming and musical influence by his bass and keyboard-playing grandfather, Rodgers picked up his first set of turntables at age 12 while living in Orlando, Florida. But a move to Indianapolis in 2001 prompted the beginning of his DJing career after he met local DJ Topspeed, who later became Rodgers’s mentor. A mixshow in 2008 with WJEL 89.3 followed, and DJ Buck Rodgers was born. Since then, Rodgers has become a household name in the Indianapolis music scene, with appearances at the 2011 Indianapolis 500, NASCAR Brickyard 400, and just about every club, bar and music venue in the Circle City. He also teaches classes at local Sam Ash Music Stores, molding minds of aspiring DJs every week. Even with such a full musical plate, Rodgers is currently working on his first EP (which is slated to be finished this summer), as well as other projects blending live drums and guitars to create original music.
